Coastal Cowgirl: How to Wear Beach Jewelry With Your Fall Outfits
Share
I love fall. Give me cooler mornings, oversized sweaters, jeans, boots, and all the cozy things.
But I’m also not quite ready to pack away summer.
Honestly, I’m probably never ready to pack away summer.
Just because the calendar says fall doesn’t mean your jewelry suddenly has to become dark, heavy, or super serious. If you’re a beach girl at heart, there are plenty of ways to bring that laid-back coastal feeling into your fall outfits.
And one of my favorite ways to do it is with a little coastal cowgirl style.
So…what exactly is coastal cowgirl?
Think less rodeo and more sunset on the beach in your favorite pair of boots.
It’s denim, warm neutrals, turquoise, shells, gold jewelry, boots, textured layers and those little beachy details that make an outfit feel relaxed instead of overly put together.
Basically, it’s what happens when western style takes a beach vacation.
And I am very much here for it.
Start with one western-inspired piece
You definitely don’t need to dress head-to-toe western to get the look.
Something as simple as a tiny cowgirl boot necklace can completely change a basic outfit.
Throw on jeans, a white tee or tank, a cardigan and boots, then add a dainty boot necklace. Suddenly the outfit has a little more personality without feeling like you’re wearing a costume.
My Cowgirl Boot Necklace has a small boot charm on a 16-inch satellite chain, so it sits right around the collarbone and is really easy to layer.
It gives you just enough cowgirl.
Add turquoise to your fall neutrals.
This might be one of my favorite combinations.
Turquoise looks SO good with fall colors.
Cream. Camel. Denim. Chocolate brown. Rust. Black.
Even if your outfit is completely neutral, adding a little turquoise jewelry gives it that beachy, southwestern pop of color.
And if you’re someone who misses the ocean approximately five minutes after leaving it (hi 👋), turquoise is an easy way to keep some of that color around all year.
Don’t put your shells away yet.
Who decided shells were only for summer?
Not me.
Try a shell necklace with a chunky cream sweater, denim jacket or simple long-sleeve tee. I actually love the contrast of something obviously beachy with a cozy fall outfit.
It feels a little unexpected — which is usually what makes an outfit interesting.
Your favorite summer jewelry doesn’t need to disappear just because you’re wearing boots instead of flip-flops.
Layer your necklaces
Fall is probably my favorite season for layering jewelry because there are so many necklines to work with.
Try a shorter 14-inch or 16-inch chain with a slightly longer pendant necklace.
A simple herringbone chain also works really well as your base layer because it catches the light without competing with the necklace underneath it.
And you don’t need five necklaces to make layering work.
Two is plenty.
Sometimes the simplest stacks look the best.
Mix your beach jewelry with denim
If you’re not sure how to transition your beach jewelry into fall, start with denim.
Seriously. Denim makes almost everything work.
Cowgirl boots + denim? Obviously.
Turquoise + denim? Perfect.
Pearls + denim? So cute.
Shells + denim? Always.
It’s probably the easiest bridge between beachy jewelry and fall clothes.
Keep your bracelets going, too
Sweater weather doesn’t mean bracelet season is over.
I love the look of colorful bracelets peeking out underneath the sleeve of a sweatshirt or sweater.
A stack of surfer-style bracelets, shells, beads or simple gold bracelets keeps an outfit casual and gives you that little reminder of summer — even when you’re nowhere near the beach.
Your style doesn’t have to change just because the season does
This is probably my favorite thing about jewelry.
You can be wearing jeans, boots and a sweater in November and still have a tiny seashell around your neck.
You can wear pearls with a sweatshirt.
You can pair turquoise with fall colors.
And you can absolutely wear a cowgirl boot necklace to the beach.
Your jewelry should feel like you, not like whatever season the calendar says you’re supposed to be dressing for.
So this fall, I’m keeping the shells, turquoise, pearls and beachy layers.
I’m just adding boots.
Because beach season might end…but beach girl season doesn’t. 🌊🤠
