How to Keep That Vacation Feeling After You Get Home

How to Keep That Vacation Feeling After You Get Home

You know that feeling when your beach vacation is almost over…and you’re already trying to figure out when you can come back?

Yep. That’s me right now.

I haven’t even left the beach yet, and I’m already sad about leaving. There’s just something about being near the ocean that makes everything feel a little different. Mornings feel slower. You spend more time outside. You watch the sunset instead of looking at the clock. And somehow sitting around with sandy feet and messy hair feels like a perfectly acceptable plan for the day.

Then suddenly it’s time to pack the car, shake approximately 47 pounds of sand out of everything you own, and head back to real life.

But maybe we don’t have to leave all of that vacation feeling behind. Here are a few ways I’m planning to bring a little bit of the beach home with me.

Keep the Vacation Playlist Going

Music has a funny way of taking you right back to a place.

You know how one song can instantly remind you of driving along the coast with the windows down or sitting outside after a long beach day?

Don’t retire that playlist just because the trip is over.

Play it while you’re getting ready in the morning, driving to work, making dinner or doing all those very un-vacation-like things waiting for you at home.

For three minutes, you can pretend you’re still driving toward the ocean instead of sitting in traffic.

Bring the Beach Into Your Everyday Style

One thing I love about coastal style is that you don’t actually have to be at the beach to wear it.

Throw on your favorite shell earrings. Wear the necklace you wore all weekend. Stack a few surfer bracelets with your watch.

Those little things can bring back a memory every time you look at them.

That’s actually a big part of why I love beach-inspired jewelry so much. It’s not just about what you’re wearing. It’s about what it reminds you of.

This weekend I photographed Fiji Glow right in front of the ocean, with the waves rolling in behind it. Now I think I’ll always associate that necklace with this trip.

And honestly? I kind of love that.

Jewelry can become a tiny souvenir of a moment—even when you didn’t buy it from a souvenir shop.

Don’t Stop Watching the Sunset

Why is it that we’ll rearrange an entire vacation evening around catching the sunset…

…and at home we barely notice it happening?

I’m guilty of this too.

You don’t need an ocean in front of you to stop for ten minutes and watch the sky change colors. Sit outside. Take a walk. Put your phone down for a few minutes.

There are sunsets happening at home, too.

Maybe we just need to start treating them like we’re on vacation.

Keep a Little Bit of “Vacation You"

I think this might be the biggest one.

Vacation-you probably doesn’t care quite as much about the overflowing laundry basket. Vacation-you will sit outside doing absolutely nothing and somehow not feel guilty about it. Vacation-you might take the long way because the view is pretty. Vacation-you orders dessert.

Why does that version of us only get to come out when we’re away from home? Maybe the real trick isn’t trying to make everyday life feel exactly like vacation. That’s probably impossible.

Maybe it’s bringing home the parts of vacation that make us feel the most like ourselves. More sunshine. More time outside. More music. More sunsets. More little things that make an ordinary Tuesday feel special.

Tomorrow I’ll head home. The bags will get unpacked, the laundry will pile up, and regular life will start again. Silver lining is I’m taking a lot of pictures and videos home with me.

I’m taking home jewelry covered in memories of ocean waves and sunsets. I’m definitely taking home the reminder that I need a little more beach day in my everyday life.

Maybe that’s really what Rainbow Surf Jewelry has always been about. You can’t always be at the beach. But you can carry a little bit of that feeling with you.
